The crew : a belgian team with canadian help
This expedition was made of two successive trips. TRIP 1 being the main one with Antoine Gérard, for 2 months in full autonomy ; TRIP 2 a shorter side-trip with group- and solo- experiences.
Expedition members (TRIP 1) :
Initially Gilles spent a term at the Yukon College in Whitehorse (Yukon, Canada) after highschool. At the end of the semester, a friend - Mary - offered him to accompany her on an incredible journey. So in february 2009, they ventured into the frozen Ogilvie Mountains looking for the log cabins from Mary's childhood - her long deserted home. There, her parents were trappers for many years. Have a look at her blog, it's great !
Antoine Gérard is a tough belgian mate who worked 8 years as a tree surgeon. He wished to be part of this trip the second Gilles told him about it. He's been doing long-distance walking trips, one of which took him through the mountains across the whole length of the West Coast (USA). His calm and strength (for me skinny one) will be great assets to the team !
Expedition members (TRIP 2) :
Peter has been the mentor of our winter expedition. Having lived in the Yukon for most of his life, he is THE local reference when it comes to winter trips. He taught us many things, gave us many advice, followed us from prep to finish and gave us much of the strength and confidence that we needed. After the 2 months trip with Antoine, he put up a great team together and they all met Gilles in Keno City for a second shorter ski trip. A totally different experience ! Thanks to him !
Canadian help :
Special thanks to our Whitehorse friends - Charles & Jennifer, Christina, Sara, Susan & Jamie - who supported us, helped us in our preps and followed us all along.
Huge thanks of course to the trappers and outfitters who let us stay in their cabins.
