In the last post, Antoine and I had just gotten to the Hart River and decided to stay there for a while. I'll briefly interupt the chronology with this here post, for some real-time news...
We got back to Dawson the 21st of March. Rested/recovered there for about two weeks. Antoine has gotten an opportunity to help collecting birch syrup in a nice camp along the Klondike Highway, and decided he'd rather do that during April. So the two of us parted ways end of March. I, on the other hand, started hitch-hiking on the 1st of April with my two big sleds, hoping I'd get to Keno City. Got a ride along the Klondike Highway with Peter - Peter who wasn't going that way at all but decided it would be fun anyway... - and got in Keno City yesterday at night (2nd of April). In two days' time, thanks to some mechanical problems with Peter's van, I learned to shoot a gun, drive a snowmobile, drank Whiskey with some interesting characters, was invited to a dinner in honour of the election of NND First Nations' new chief, and finally slept in Keno's church (which had been turned into a library). Two days of fun anyway. Thanks Peter!
Now the plan for me is to ski North of Keno with a group of six yukoners, among which stands our "mentor" :-) Peter Heebink (not the previous Peter), for about two weeks. Starting tomorrow. Depending on the ice and snow conditions, I might extend with a little solo trip. But it looks like snow and ice is melting pretty fast with the ever-growing Spring days. We'll see.
Sun is bright, mountains are beautiful, colours are coming back, and it's almost warm now. Exciting !!!
PS: since Antoine and I are not together anymore, from now on I'll only tell my part of the story (even though I'd still want to post some news and pictures about our previous 2-months trip together) (but we'll very likely see each other again in a month or so). Also, in case anybody still wanted to help and sponsor the trip, this is my blog and that person would now be sponsoring me only... (just to be clear)
