Hola muchachos,
Long time no see no talk. I got back from the Mounts of Solitude and Wonder on the 19th of April. I'm through with all that snowshoeing, skiing & pulling, for good. I'm now recovering in Keno, enjoying everything I missed for almost 3 months (you know : bed with sheets, shower, running LIQUID! water, company, music, internet, skype, beers ^^). But what a trip !
Now, people like facts. I'll give you some facts ! Here's what we've been preparing and doing for about 4 months... No quite the original plan as one can see, but still a great trip, and highly interesting. What we've learned was taught to us the hard way, and those lessons are imprinted in capital letters in our brains for the rest of our lives.

Note for the map : the roads are the white lines. Where there's no white line, there's no road, no dirt road, NOTHING ! That's something I found hard to believe, coming from crowded little Belgium...
TRIP 1 : Dempster Highway to Hart River and back to the Dempster
TRIP 2 : Keno City to the Beaver River
There, some numbers.
Having time and internet (to dispose of both at the same time is rare enough to be appreciated), I'll go back to my story-telling for the few next posts. Oh! and I have some pictures, too.
TRIP 1 : Dempster Highway to Hart River and back to the Dempster
- Antoine & Gilles
- 57 days in the dead of winter : from the 24th of January to 21st of March 2015
- Total distance : about 220 km
- Real physically travelled distance with sleds : near 300 km (since we sometimes had to travel a geographical distance thrice in order to bring both of our heavy sleds...)
- 2 weeks' experience each of solitary stays in cabins along the Hart River
- Almost 3 weeks with temperatures in between -35 and -55°C, followed by 2 weeks of grey sky and heavy snow, then 3 weeks of blue sky and sunny days
TRIP 2 : Keno City to the Beaver River
- 16 days
- Peter, Nick, Jeff, Gabrielle, Rob, Christina, Cyd & Gilles : 6 days along the Wind River Trail and to Kathleen Lake
- Gilles : 10 days solo up the Rackla River valley into the headwaters of the Wind River and back down on the Wind River Trail
- Total travelled distance : 176,6 km (about 90 km with yukon crew and 80 km solo)
- 14 days on the trail
- Mix of sun, clouds & snow. Fresh nights (-10 to -25°C) but mostly nice and warm during the long spring days :-)
